Congratulations beginners group 2023!

 Beginners2023

We did it! The 2023 begginer and return to running programme has been completed!

We would love to give a massive shout out to each and every one of our fabulous beginners and return to running group in 2023. We really hope this has set you up to achieve whatever your goals are this year and would love to see all of you as full time members of the club but hey! no pressure.

Even if you feel like you've wanted to go further, wanted to go faster or if you feel like it's been all aboard the strugglebus each week, ultimately, we hope you've had fun along the way - we know we have!

I think this group may have been the most successful year yet and let's face it, you've had to battle some really apocalyptic weather along the way so give yourselves a pat on the back and feel proud of yourselves because you got out there and you did it when others were cosied up watching Britain's favourtie shipping ports or some other garbage on TV.

We had over half of the starters complete their 5k graduation parkrun on March the 4th with similar amounts turning up for our training sesion and club run over the next 2 weeks and finally on to the big club run graduation yesterday (and cheeky post run social) yesterday.

Thank you also to the amazing Harriers who turned up each week to support and encourage the beginners you have all been more than fabulous and couldn't have made it without you all. ?

Goring Goring Gone!

Goring2023

Wow what an incredible weekend of running we just had!

The Goring 10k has been a feature of our club championships for quite some time now but this year had an absolute stellar turnout with over 25 Harriers turning up and painting the green landscape just that little bit more green.

I;'m not sure how (considering the hilly course) but some people managed 10k PBs with others returning to races after years, others hitting or exceeding their expected times. The all round positive vibes were topped off by 2 of our very own superstars: Connor McGurk who was the overall winner with an astonishing time of 35:28 and Beppe Morabito who cam in 9th position overall to win the Mens Veterans category with another incredible time (and a PB!) of 37:33.

Congratulations to all of the Harriers who took part it was a lot of fun. See you next year for another incredible race.

Stepping it up in Abingdon

Abo Marathon

A big congratulations/thank you to Nichola Poulton and Kate Brook who have single double-handedly saved the local Abingdon marathon!

Abingdon marathon have been looking out for a new Race Director this year with fears that if the position wasn't filled then the event would have to be cancelled. Well... they got more than they bargained for as they got 2 fabulous new Race Directors.

Thanks for saving this local race ladies!

Helping the community

Mixed emotions at last Thursday's run as the Harriers did a literal foodbank run! Roughly 20 of our members picked up packets of rice, pasta and cerals, cartons of milk, tins for vegetable, fish and meat from our regular starting point at Boundary park and ran them all to our local food bank about a mile away.

For the Harriers it was a fun and rewarding experience to load up with food and to donate it to those most in need whilst also using the fiirst mile as extra strength training but arriving at the food bank it was fairly disheartening to hear how many families in the local area have to rely on this service.

We are really proud of all of our members who donated items and helped to take it all to the foodbank and hope we can make this a more regular occurance.

The Season for Giving

The Season for Giving

We are pleased to announce that we have given a £500 donation to the Earth Trust. This has been part of the Big Give Christmas challenge which means our funds have been matched to give this local charity an incredible £1,000.

the Earth Trust does fantastic work locally to inspire people to address climate issues, biodiversity and personal wellbeing with the power of natural green spaces.

The Earth Trust cares for the Wittenham Clumps which is the location of some of most challenging and memorable club sessions. They have always been very welcoming and supportive of the Harwell Harriers so it feels great to be able to give back to give back to the community.
